Tyler

This summer instead of going to one place we decided to take several weekend trips around our state. One place that we ventured to was Tyler, TX. And we took a trip to the zoo while there. Here are some photos of our time at the zoo. Enjoy!
The zoo is nicely landscaped with lots of ups and downs. We really got a work out exploring this zoo. They have this huge caged bird area and you can walk in and see birds up close. And feed them with a stick dipped in a sticky substance and rolled in bird seed. The birds just hop on to your stick! My favorite animal. And you can't leave without picking up a souvenir or two!

Thrifty Finds

I purchased these two chairs to go on our front porch. I had seen a magazine cover that had chairs and a small table with a tablecloth to the ground and it was so cute. One chair was $10, the other was $15 and the table was $1.00, which all came from the same thrift store but not all at the same trip. The tablecloth came from the super W store. My son and I painted them one afternoon. That was a learning experience for both of us. Teaching him about having no drip marks and starting in one area before moving to the next. When they were all dried, his looked better than mine. So this is my version of the cover. I still need to get some small accents and plants to place around but the larger items are coming together. Last week I showed the rocker on the other side of the porch. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Menu Planning Monday

I am not planning a menu this week. I have returned back to school this week and I'm exhausted from meetings, from just sitting there absorbing all the information. Our son has football conditioning camp in the evenings this week so we will be running him over to the other side of the freeway during the dinner hour. I feel that I will not be able to successfully plan and create meals with out falling over from exhaustion so we are eating out or playing it by ear as to whats on hand at home.

Here is my room when I walked in last Thursday. I am almost finished for Meet the Teacher on Friday. I have meetings all this week except Friday. Friday is a work in our room until 2:00 and then parents and students will be arriving to meet me. I am never done decorating and creating until May, but it will be presentable for the Meet the Teacher. The picture above is space for two classrooms. I wished I had all that space!
As you can see I only have two full walls the rest is open. I get a lot of traffic in the hallway going in and out of the building. I'll take more picutres later when I have more completed.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Waiting

Saturday we were hanging around the house waiting for the delivery truck with our new washer and dryer. Earlier this week our dryer would not turn on so we called the repairman to come take a look. Our washer and dryer were purchased when we got married way back in 1992, so they had done their job for us and were not very energy efficient. So instead of spending $400 to repair the motor on the old dryer we went shopping and purchased two beautiful appliances.

With the old washer and dryer I didn't see a real need or desire to fix up the laundry room but now I need to spruce things up in there. The new appliances are sooo pretty! I think it may become one of my favorite rooms in the house.

See ya~I've got laundry to do!

Rocker Project

Look what I have done! This was an inherited piece from a family member that passed away. It was a brown rocker that I added a fresh coat of white paint and it now sits proudly on my front porch. The pillow was found at Goodwill.
Now I'm looking for a small table at the thrift stores to sit beside the rocker and then adding some plants. I'm so terrible with plants. I kinda forget to water. And that's not good in this Texas heat!

Menu Planning Monday

What a fun filled weekend we had. The Round Rock Express baseball game was exciting. It's a small field with lots of foul balls flying our way. I hit 5 thrift stores and came back with little. It was a slow relaxing weekend. I go back to work on Thursday so my summer is about to end. Heading to get my hair cut for the school year in just a bit. We hit Kohls today for some school shopping and I had a doctor's appointment. So we have been on the go just about all day.

Last night I started a load of towels and went to put them in the dryer this morning and the dryer is dead. So I have a repairman coming Wednesday. Tomorrow, I am driving with my mom to take oldest niece back home. We are meeting her parents north of Dallas, so tomorrow will be an all day in the car day.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Here is our meal plan for the week:
Monday~Chicken with mac and cheese-I know not exciting but son loves it!
Tuesday~Eating on the road!
Wednesday~Pizza
Thursday~Peach Glazed Chicken-I have had this on our plan for quite some time but something always comes up and I don't get to it.
Friday~Subway or frozen meal!

Friday Fun

1. You know you're old when it hurts to get up from the floor when you have only been sitting down there for 20 minutes.
2. My heart is divided between being on line and reading.
3. A pedicure is what I need RIGHT NOW!
4. I have felt the pain of words, I have known the depths of forgiveness.
5. Gah, won't these people be quiet.
6. Let's do lunch as soon as you can!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to checking into our hotel, tomorrow my plans include a Round Rock Express baseball game and Sunday, I want to hit some antique stores!

We are leaving out of town today for a weekend getaway to Round Rock. My boys are looking forward to the baseball game and I can't wait for the shopping!

Have a great weekend!

Summer Ball

Well, our last game was suppose to be Tuesday evening but since Tropical Storm/Hurricane Edouard decided to make landfall around here and brought a lot of rain the game was cancelled. I was disappointed because a local news team was suppose to come interview our girl player and the boys. Now if the game is rescheduled they may not come.
This was our first time playing summer ball and we had a great time. Yes, it took a good chunk out of our summer schedule but since we had no major plans for a summer vacation, it fit perfectly in our schedule this year. It was great exercise for our son and he loved hanging out with his friends. Will we do it again? Probably!
During summer ball the coach let the kids play positions that they did not play during the Spring season. So our son got to try pitching and he struck out three in a row when he was on the mound. He was so excited and thinks he would love to be a pitcher instead of a catcher now.

August Pay It Forward Book Exchange

The book for this month is a fun read, The Starter Wife by Gigi Levangie Grazer. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Did you know that USA Network made a mini series based on the book starring Debra Messing? I just love her! They have ordered another 10 episodes of the show. Network executives say the decision to continue the show was based on its rating success and critical recognition through its 10 Emny nominations. The series will see Molly (Debra Messing) reinvent her life. It premieres August 30. Check you local listings.
Gracie Pollock is dumped by her movie studio executive husband just before their 10th wedding anniversary (“I've been Cruised,” she says) and finds herself living the Hollywood nightmare of being a starter wife. As a social pariah, she and her three-year-old daughter, Jaden, move into a friend's beach side Malibu home where she befriends a different set of characters, including the hunky but homeless Sam who saves her from drowning and her ex-husband's boss.

Here are the rules to enter. Yes, there are some rules!

If you win this book you must host a giveaway on your blog. If you don't have a blog then you will give the book to a local shelter, library, etc.

You do not need a blog to participate. If you don't have one just please leave your e-mail so that in the event you should win I can get a hold of you.

You need to leave a comment to this post by Monday, August 25 by midnight. I will randomly draw a name on Tuesday, August 26 and post the winner here. Also, I will contact the winner by e-mail or blog.
