Face Book

I have been reconnecting with old and new friends. Thanks to my sister who got my hooked on it. I have been spending time over there and have neglected my blog this week. Give me a few days and I will settled down.

Garage Sale

They always sound like such a good idea and then you remember just how much work they are!

My mom had the crazy idea to have one. My sister needed to have one since she just moved and has stuff she wants to get rid of. And I always have too much stuff laying around. Both my sister and mom's neighborhoods can't have garage sales but on certain days, so my garage is our location. I have had one other garage sale at our house and we did quite well. Living close to the hood, I can get a lot of traffic. I have also told a couple of girlfriends to bring their junk over so we will have lots for sale.

I have been going through rooms and closets pulling out all kinds of crap! Things I didn't know we had or used. The majority is coming from my sons room. He wants a room make over so all his decorations, bedding and baby toys(his words) are going. So the profit from the garage sale will be going towards his new room decor and any left over goes to ME!

To get ready for this garage sale I needed to clean out the garage. We have a detached garage and I hardly go out there. It's not air conditioned and there are bugs! Yuck! Also, the garage has been a dumping ground for broken and unwanted items and mad cleaning, where you scoop everything up inside the house and throw into the garage!

Sunday, I got up early and started cleaning. I started from the back and was working towards the front. We have a side door and then the double car door which faces the street. I had the double door closed because I was too embarrassed for my neighbors to see how cluttered my garage was. I know silly! So I just had the side door open. Now picture a sea of boxes and baby items, school books and furniture waiting to be painted, repaired or recovered, bikes and sporting equipment, bins of holiday decorations. I know, horrible! Plus, there are items from the last garage sale.

I was slowly making progress and finally get to the back wall where the baby crib is nicely wrapped in plastic along with the mattress. I pull out the crib and drag it to the patio so I can clean it up to sell and then go back to get the mattress. I gently pull it away from the wall and guess what is staring back at me!!!! An opossum!!!! You have never seen a hot, tired, city girl jump so high, hurdle over boxes and get inside the house so fast. It literally shook me up. My son thought I had lost my mind. Luckily for us my uncle was next door at his in-laws helping them with something and he came over and took care of the opossum for good! It took me a long while to work up my courage to go back into the garage and this time I had the double door opened so that me and whatever else I should happen to find could get out of there. My mom kept calling to see if I found any others but thankful I hadn't. With the screaming and hollering I did when I first saw the opossum my neighbors had slowly started coming out and we started talking and several of them had seen opossums or their dogs had cornered some. I just can't believe they are in my neighborhood. We don't have a lot of wooded areas around except for the golf course at the end of my street.
I'm really looking forward to getting rid of what I don't need so that I can better organize what I do need. So if you're in the neighborhood this weekend come by and visit and I guarantee there will be no opossums!

Get Gorgeous

My friend LC and I scored an all access pass to pretty with an exclusive makeover from Stila at our local Sephora store. It was a rocking party at Sephora. They had a DJ and several vendors walking around demoing their products. We were dancing in the aisle. Stila was launching their Cover Lookbook Collection, which is so pretty. The gal that did my make up was so sweet and very talented. We chatted and she gave me some pointers to apply and how to enhance my eyes. Plus when she finished my makeup I didn't look like a freaking clown, which has happened at the Lancome counter. I purchased Stila convertible color dual lip and cheek cream in gerbera, see picture. This product looked so natural on it was amazing. After the make-up you could get your photograph taken by a professional which air brushed you and made your picture into a magazine cover. I passed on this but LC gone it done. I told her she needed to take it to school and tell her students she did some modeling this summer! Kindergartners will believe just about anything!

After our make overs we wandered around the store. I picked up some Philosophy bath and shampoo in Melon Daiquiri. And then we ended up at the perfumes. Oh my gosh! We spent so much time sniffing here. It was overwhelming! A Sephora lady came along and helped us. She had this incredible book called The World of Fragrance, which listed all the perfumes and what notes they have and how to find the notes you love, etc. I want this book! But not likely to happen since it cost $150.00. I ended up with a sample of Jadore and LC left with a couple.

We left Sephora and called up our guys to take us out to dinner since we were looking gorgeous. We ended up at Otila's, a local favorite authentic Mexican restaurant. Not my favorite but everyone else enjoyed. I prefer good old Tex-Mex.

So check out your local Sephora to see if Stila is coming and definitely go check out their products. You to can get gorgeous!

Thank You Notes

A topic that came up with the girls as we were eating and chatting was thank you notes. People just don't send them anymore. You are lucky if you receive an e-mail or they mention it the next time you see them.

I was brought up that it was proper etiquette to write a thank you for gifts I received. My mom would have me take out my cute stationery set and write thank you notes for gifts I received for birthdays and Christmas. My thank yous back then were very short and sweet. Also, my mom wanted us to write the thank you before we could enjoy the gift.

Maybe this started my love of stationery. I love all kinds and styles. I could spend hours in a stationary store or on line store. I just love paper! Nowadays I enjoy making handcrafted cards but if I'm in a bind, I turn to the old stand by of Hallmark or other stationary company.

As I have gotten older and wiser, I will send thank yous for other occasions besides gift that I have received, such as; an interview, guest at a dinner party, when a friend has helped out with a special favor, being a house guest, to the hostess after a party was given in your honor and especially for gifts received in the mail( this lets the sender know that it has arrived).

A thank you note is an expression of appreciation for a thoughtful act, gift or expression. Also, its so nice to go to the mailbox and discover a hand written card is waiting for you to open. Something nice instead of bills and junk mail.

So do you need to send out some thank yous this weekend? I have already mailed mine for the gifts I received Wednesday.

Have a great day!

Celebrate Good Times

Come On! Last night the girls all got together at Cafe Red Onion to celebrate mine and D's birthdays. We had so much fun talking and laughing. The food was good and the gifts were great. I am one lucky Lady to have some good friends in my life. D announced to us that she will be leaving at the end of this month, moving to California. I am so sad to see her go but I know this is something that her and her family want right now. You are going to be missed!

My dog is doing better. I think she is back to being Devil Dog! On Tuesday we took her and her sister to be spayed. She was quite sick afterwards from the anesthesia. It was not a fun ride home after the vet! She seems more playful this morning and back to tearing things up.

We have DS tutoring today so that will take up most of the afternoon. I plan to camp out on the couches in the waiting room and finish up my book. See picture to the right. I am enjoying this book. Plus I checked it out from the library and its due tomorrow! I am trying to save money by checking out my books from the library and not buying them. But I sometimes get them back past the due date and have to pay a fine so it defeats the purpose. But I don't have books laying around the house adding more clutter to our home.

It looks like rain today so I think the pool with the cousins is going to be out of the question this afternoon. So we will be home and I will have to cook. Wish me luck!

We have an uneventful weekend coming up. What are your plans for the weekend?

Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Sweetie!

Yesterday was DH's birthday. He had to work during the day and then we had the Quinceanera in the evening. Tonight we are going out for dinner to celebrate. He did open his gifts from DS and I yesterday. We are having a birthday party on the 9th for him since he turned 40!!! He hasn't had many birthday parties so he is kinda excited about it. We are going to a family place that has a nice play area for the kids and a driving range for the guys. I have been running around all last week gathering items for the party.

The Quinceanera was fun. We sat at a table with friends so that made the evening enjoyable. We had a nice dinner. The honoree and her court performed some dances which were quite impressive and then cake was served. DS and I took a turn on the dance floor. We left the place around 11. The music was way too loud for us and it wasn't our taste in music either so we said our goodbyes and headed home.

Have a relaxing day!

Today not much excitement happened. While getting ready this morning my friend LC called and asked if I would like to go get manis and pedis? Would I? Oh yes! I was long over due in this department. I went with a sheer color on my nails, Pillow Talk by OPI and had the punch of color on my toes with the color above, Tropical Punch by OPI. Did you catch that humor? I have been trying different colors each time I go this summer. I am a girl of habit. I like my usual so I am branching out and having so much fun. LC and I have so much fun looking at all the pretty colors of nail polish displayed on the spinning rack at the place that we visit. Also, we get a chuckle at reading all the labels on the bottom of the bottles. We are easily entertained! The place we go charges $35 for both services. I love the massage chair and they have hot stones they rub on your arms and legs. It was a great pick me up. Thanks LC for calling this morning.

I did the above while DS was in tutoring. When he was finished, we went to the YMCA so that he could swim. Today the lifeguards were very whistle friendly. They kept blowing those dang whistle while I was reading and it was very annoying! I had a run in with one of the lifeguards awhile back and she walks way around me or doesn't even look at me now. She tried to tell me that I was doing something wrong when I wasn't and I had to go complain at the front desk so now she knows not to mess with me!

Hope your week is going well!
