Two Weddings~The Second One

The second wedding was my cousins. She was absolutely beautiful. Her brother married them. During the ceremony they had the whole congregation part take in communion and their baby was baptised. Another neat thing was instead of a unity candle they had a vase with colored sand. The Brides and Grooms mothers when up on the platform together. The Grooms mother poured brown sand first, into a clear vase part ways and then the Brides mother poured white sand part ways. Then during the ceremony the Bride and Groom filled the rest of the vase with the remaining sand, mixing it all up. Very neat idea. Following the ceremony was dinner and dancing on the top floor of the Westin Galleria. We had so much fun dancing, even my mom was out on the dance floor! We left before the happy couple just before midnight. The honeymoon is a cruise in the Caribbean and then they will be residing in West Texas. Here are a couple of photos from the evening.

Two Weddings~The First One

We have had two weddings and a funereal this month! I love attending weddings to see the newest trends and ideas that Brides come up with. I had so much fun planning my wedding with my mom. Our budget didn't allow us to have a planner so we had to do it all ourselves.

The first wedding was a friend from church. The decorations in the church were minimal. The bridesmaids wore chocolate brown full length gowns and carried a fall cluster of flowers. The wedding cake was not tiered but on different level cake stands tied with sheer ribbon. The grooms cake was a tree stump with their initials carved on the side. Opposite the room was a table for punch and a table with fruits. The fruit table had caramel apples mixed in for a nice Fall treat. The reception was held in our Church's gym and yards and yards of materials hung from the walls to make it look like a tent. The favor was a fall cellophane bag fill with an assortment of wrapped candies. Birdseed was thrown as the couple left in a Black Hummer. They will be honeymooning on their way to Oregon to visit the grooms family and then settling down in the Dallas area. I was so busy visiting with my girlfriends, the Brides' sisters, from out of town that I didn't snap many pictures.

My Mom Mom

Hazell Iris Trussel Denson was born in Houston on the 30th of October 1918 and died peacefully at home on the 21st of October 2007. Our beloved Mommom was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Carl T. Denson, Jr and daughter Diane Denson Tobola. She is survived by her two daughters, and son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The service was lovely. Two granddaughters sang, Two grand children read a scripture and poem and one great-grand daughter read scripture. One grand son officiated the service. After the service we went to the graveside service and then over to the family's house for lunch and visiting. I am emotionally drained.

Thank you for all your kind words and prayers. They meant the world to me. I was able to make it through the service with little tears and I know it was due to all of you out there.

Below are a couple of photos taken growing up with my Mommom and Poopa. I have lots more but they are stuck in an old photo album and I need to figure out how to get them out without tearing the picture. My mom was the photographer and she always seemed to cut heads off or bodies.

Have a peaceful evening!

Thrifty Find

I stopped in a Goodwill on Saturday on my way home from my teacher workshop and picked up this platter. I paid $3.00, what a deal. It's not your normal size cake platter. It's a little bit smaller in diameter. It's a heavy glass with no scratches. Not too sure if its old or not. But I loved it and it will work nicely for a cheese dip bread bowl that I make for gatherings. Thanks for looking!

My Little Helper

It was such a great weekend, this past weekend. Beautiful! In our backyard we have a huge pecan tree that sits right in the middle of our yard. We have some small plants around the base of the tree with river rock edging the bed. Quite nice. I plant my tulip bulbs in this area in the Fall. I might have to find another planting space since my little helper likes to get in the flower bed and dig everything up!!!! Devil Dog you drive me crazy, but we love you anyway!

Today it felt like winter. The temperature was below 60 and that is freezing here in Texas. I wasn't prepared for this cold snap. Slowly it will warm back up.

An update on my great aunt. She passed away Sunday. The funereal will be Wednesday. Please pray that I make it through the service.

Hope your week is off to a warm start!

KIDPROV

Saturday, I went to a Gifted and Talented Training and I had so much fun! Usually teacher trainings are not that exciting or interesting especially when you have to give up your Saturday. This group of three men formed Kidprov. They promote improvisational comedy with edutainment value. Let me back up and share some background information. I love comedy. My DH and I attended many comedy shows during college while dating and after we got married. We would stay up late and giggle while watching it on TV. Slowly comedy started to get dirty with the use of profanity and we stopped watching. Then Whose Line Is It Anyway came on TV and we were hooked. Think of that show and that was how the workshop was on Saturday. I thought I was taking a comedy class. They pulled volunteers from the audience and had them play the different warm ups and games. One of my favorites was Morph. This game was so much fun! The guy would bring out an ordinary object, like a box, picture frame, etc. and you had to use it in a different way. We were all laughing so hard we were crying. I needed this so much this weekend. To all my teacher friends and principals these guys will come to your school and do assemblies for students and teachers. Through improv, Kidprov establishes a highly interactive environment whereby participants learn through multiple learning modalities. Kidprov's classroom tested improvisational activities are easily applied by classroom teachers and are readily adaptable to all grade levels and subject matter. Their website is http://www.kidprov.com/ . They did say that their website was not spectacular and would be updated it soon.
Hope you had a fun weekend!

Heavy Heart

My family and I need your prayers for a special lady and our family. My great aunt, Mom Mom, is slowly making her way to heaven. She was taken to the hospital earlier this week and has refused any help, so its a matter of days. My parents went with me and my DS to say our good byes and we love you. She is very special to me. She placed me in my parents arms when I was a baby. She found me a loving home with wonderful parents to raise me. I grew in my moms heart not in her belly. She has always had a special place in my heart and life, as I had with her. She took care of me when I was little when my mom was very ill at times. I have gone on vacations with them and we celebrated special moments together. My heart is heavy. I don't want her to go for selfish reasons but I know she is headed for a much better place where there is no pain and suffering.
The above birdhouse wreath was painted by my DS. He wanted me to showcase his art project. I had picked up this wreath and a couple more many years ago. I had painted two, one for my mom and one for my sister for Mother's Day several years ago. I had two more sitting in the garage. Well, this summer was a wet one and DS needed indoor activities. So one afternoon, I dragged out the paints and paintbrushes and he went to town. He loves to craft when I pull out all my stuff. My sweet budding artist!

Thrifty Finds

Here are my latest finds. Nothing too exciting this trip. I found the large bushel basket in Halloween colors and trick or treat around the rim. I can't decide if I want to fill it with a pretty mum or candy. You can guess how my DS voted! Grabbed two bags of spider rings. My students love these for some reason. Also, two small clay pots. I saw on another blog, and I can't remember who it was, but they painted the pots white and then added a rub on letter for a monogram look. I thought that would be prefect in my scrapbook room! If you are reading this and that was your idea, please leave a comment so that I can give you credit and thank you for that neat idea. I'll show the pots again after I have altered them.
Hope your week is going great!
